A carry on to the story of the two girls that got hit on the M6 and survived:-

The footage from the motorway is plain crazy!

I hear you on the Fixie front, but they have grown on me this year. So it sounds like you will be locking it up?

If you don't have a safe place to lock it up for long periods, I would spend £500 no more. Anymore than that and you'll be paranoid when ever you leave it.

See if your employer does any cycle schemes as well.

@ Louth: Did you do the London to Paris bike ride?

First thing you need to do is decide what you want it for?

Town Riding - Get a fixie or hybrid
Road Biking - Get a Specialized, Trek or something Italian
Trail/Town - Get a Cross Country with Front Suspension
Off Road/Downhill - Get a balls to the wall Full Suspension bike
Urban Tricks - Get a BMX or Trials Bike

Good rule of thumb, always get as good a frame as you can even if it means lower quality components. These can always been replaced once broken of when you're ready to upgrade.

Like Louthy said, avoid suspension unless you will really need it.

It's a dump at the best of times. Only good party there was when Jam first left the Q and they drained out the pool and had the main floor in it.

That was a good night!
