Was this 2020 thing rammed? I heard there was 800 pre sale tickets and 1500 people on the guestlist for it (and just a 1200 capacity place!!) Confused

Not noticeably. I got there just after 12 and went straight in. It was never unpleasantly busy either. Always had room to dance.

2020 sound system consisted of lawson, someone on drums, someone on bass guitar and someone on keys. Due to the poor sound it was hard to hear the live parts.

Who was playing?

Crazy P Soundsystem, Motor City Drum Ensemble, Simon Baker, Julien Chaptal, Ralph Lawson, Jozif, Craig Torrance, Chris Halliday, Danny Raper.

Don't forget the 2020 Vision Soundsystem who - owing to the poor sound - appeared to just play the same record over and over (there was no mid it seemed and just bass).

Since when did it become alright to charge £25 on the door for a bog standard club night (2020 Vision at Village Underground)? I know that it was half that if I'd booked months ago, but I didn't know I was going until that evening and I wasn't going to be a tight cunt and refuse to pay when it was a mate's birthday.

I know fabric has its minor faults, but at least you know where you are with them. The people who run fabric are decent and are not out there just to shaft the punters. There was no need to charge that amount for the line up they had and it just made you think that they didn't really give a shit and just wanted to make as much money as possible.

Likewise. Had a good listen the other day and added loads to my own playlist.

Cul - what are the odds on Blackburn going down this year? They have signed no body this year and hardly set the world on fire last year.

I think staying up this year is going to be far harder than last year. Last year you had two freebies (Portsmouth & Hull), no Newcastle and Burnley. West Ham can't be as bad as they were last year and the clubs that have come up this year (minus Blackpool) are far stronger than the ones that came up last year. Three from my bottom five will go down.

LCD Soundsystem - All My Friends.

They have never really grabbed me, but this tune is an absolute belter. Proper nostalgic high five everyone kind of tune.

I much prefer Ben's reviews to the normal club night ones (they normally are a bit longer); he writes with flair imo and is more entertaining than the usual shite you read for a review. It is aping the style of the late great Hunter S Thompson, but hes not doing it badly and if there was ever a subject that was ripe for Gonzo journalism surely it was the review of a club night.
I have read some fucking shite whilst reading this board, but fucking hell this post takes the piss.

You can't say anything on here. I never said he was stepping into the shoes or following in the foot steps or the UK's contemporary equivalent to HST. Not many people can write like he could; he was a superb writer and I've probably read most things he wrote that made it into paperback.

Ben may not be his equiavlent, but the style is the same. The influence is there. That is what I meant. And that was my point, I'd rather read reviews in the style of gonzo journalism than your usual bland clubnight reviews. I personally find it mor entertaining.
