To squash all rumours that "The End" will reopen, here's what we know from the horses mouth:

Our landlord purchased the whole block well over 3 years ago & had been on our case since then to close down so that they could redevelop the block as luxury apartments.
We'd fought this off for 2 & a half years but eventually gave in to their demands in July 08.

Of course, since then, there's been a credit crunch & our landlord is allegedly, no longer developing right now, as there's not loads of money to develop & there's no one to actually buy these luxury apartments, at the price needed, to make development worth the Landlords while.

We at The End were approached by our landlord to continue as a club but this was way after our exit strategy had been put into place & word already out that we were closing & we were no longer no position to continue even if we wanted to (which we don't) so we said no.
This is because we all want to move on to pastures new & feel that this particular chapter in electronic dance music known as the night club "The End" has come to an organic, & for us, perfect closure.

"The End" as a brand is, & will remain, our intellectual property, so if the venue does reopen as another venue it will have nothing whatsoever to do with "The End", including the name.
"The End" is much more than a venue, but a collective of people, which made "The End" the place that it is & without this collective of people, it would be impossible to duplicate. It's because of this collective of individuals that the nights & DJ's that play there have come to play, so without the same collective, the same cannot possibly be achieved.
No one that we know as DJ's or collectives have been approached to spin there, if & when it does open as another club, & as anyone who works in this industry knows, that talent needs to be booked at least 3/4 months in advance due to talent availability & to get the marketing & promotion for each individual event right, let alone the marketing for a new venue.
As no one we know in the industry as been approached we can only assume that if someone is going to come in & do something with the "venue" then it won't be within the electronic music circles that we've been involved in & it will have no branding of "The End" whatsoever as we continue to own all rights to the name & all other intellectual property.
It's also not possible for any other person to open this as a venue in February as stated in this rumour of a news piece as our contract states that if someone where to come in as a new venue that they wouldn't be able to open until after March.

With all of these posh clubs like China White closing down, my money would be on an organisation like this trying to get it's foot in the door.
Time will tell, but whatever it is that does happen there, will have nothing to do with us whatsoever as after January 30th 2009 we're out of the door completely & absolutely & "The End" as a night club will no longer exist.

Less than 3 weeks to go & counting. Thank you all for making The End special.

4four... always the 1st to know. lol

Cheers.

In the tunnel of woods, as the road
Winds up through the freckled light, a porcupine,
Larger than life, crosses the road.
He moves with the difficulty of relics—
Possum, armadillo, horseshoe crab.
To us they seem creatures arthritic with time,
Winding joylessly down like burnt-out galaxies.
In all their slowness we see no dignity,
Only a want of scale.
Having crossed the road oblivious, he falls off
Deliberately and without grace into the ferns.

Wonder how long it will take RA to post this and try to pass it off as their own content.

I PM'd Richard to ask about ticket sales on the door for the Minus night, "Don't worry" he said, "it's our policy to never sell more than 40% of the tickets in advance just turn up early and you'll have no problem".

Which leads me to believe he's not really all that involved with the ticketing side of things.

Get over it! Nasty
& don't PM if you're only gonna go & make it public you DICK!

We only intended to sell 50% in advance but so many people bought so quickly that it fucked up our system & we closed it down.
Luckily we'd only sold 1300 when it closed down & not the 5000 that were trying to be purchased. We'd been in a lot of trouble. Phew!
This is the only time this has ever happened.

As soon as I know what's going on with tickets for the closing I'll let you know but word from the office so far is that there will be very limited tickets in advance only to VIP's.
Most tickets will be on the door.
If that changes, 4four will be the 1st to know.

Calm down eh Richard, it's not like the subject of the PM was massively confidential. I don't take any pleasure in fact that things didn't go to plan ffs.

Mind you, getting a slightly fuller explanation of what actually happened is nice, and it makes people (well me anyway) a lot more on side. We ARE on your side Richard.

slight programming error that the system could sell more tickets than the capacity of the club though, wasn't it? anyway, it's over now. Smile
