Hey all,

Just started using Reason, which i am loving, finally found a program i can get on with. I was wondering though if anyone knows any decent tutorials for tech house, youtube seems to be full of dnb and electro.

What I'm looking to do is make a nice groovy drum pattern, something like Reboot, coyo & Edu Imbernon , Superflu. I've tried sidechaining, but i don't really know what to sidechain to get that groovy sound, the one that MAKES you bop your head.

Any help would be great.

Cheers,
Andy.

Not really sure if it's applicable in Reason (haven't used for a couple of years) but it's all to do with the amount (or type) of swing you apply to your MIDI/Audio.

Some DAWs come with a selection of MIDI groove settings/templates, and some allow you to add/extract new ones. Before trying to squeeze out a groove with an overly-compressed/chained loop, always look to see what your swing options are.

Or you can set the kick parts of the loop, then play hats/snares/percs live using a controller, giving it a real swingy (human) feel.

As with all production question, there's loads of info to be had on the web/youtube. There's a guy called SFLogicNinja on youtube who produces excellent tutorials for Logic - worth a watch, lots of tips/workflow ideas that can be applied to any DAW.

Cheers for the input, i like the sound of the 'human touch' never really thought of that but it kind of makes sense, give it a more natural feel.

I'll take a look at that geezer.
